The Little House on the Prairie

As a keen chef, Serena wanted to have somewhere to entertain friends, and the finca, with its huge terrace, swimming pool and traditional wood-fired oven, is perfectly designed for outdoor living.

The kitchen and dining area fills one end of the terrace, with a large Spanish wooden table and chairs that she found at the flea market in the hippodromo ( the old race course) in San Jordi. Serena's terracotta plates, bowls and dishes are all from Ibiza.

She brought the white lace tablecloth and black-and-white earthenware plates back from her travels in Ecuador. The heart shaped cups and saucers come from Casa y Campo in Ibiza Town. Hanging along the roof of the terrace is a string of brightly coloured fairy lights from the hippy market in Las Dalias. A Red velvet sofa for lounging on has three decorative Japanese paper umbrellas from the party decoration shop, La Cucana in Ibiza town, hanging above it.

One of the cult shops in Ibiza is Deseo, on Benirras beach, which sells kaftans, paintings and hand painted shoes, and Serena picked up her flouro buddha paintings here. She tends to collect furniture and accessories from all over Ibiza, mixing new discoveries with market finds.

At the edge of the pool, huge flouro cushions from Sluiz, the shop on the San Josep road are flung between two palm trees, and brightly coloured lanterns, a bargain from her local supermarket Hiper Centro, light the pool area.

Serena's home is a real retreat and she loves sitting and looking out over the lights of Ibiza town when she gets home late at night. When she finally goes to bed, she sleeps under canvas in the tipi in the garden.
